SPIRITUAL
IMPORTANCE OF BANNERS
Banners can be powerful when displayed in the midst of a worship
service. Not only are they a visual enhancement to worship, but
they accomplish a work in the realm of the Spirit as we raise them
high. Below are a few scriptures that illustrate this:
BANNERS ARE USED TO RALLY TROOPS AND PEOPLES
TOGETHER:
Isaiah 11:1
He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the exiles of
Israel; he will assemble the scattered people of Judah from the
four quarters of the earth.
John 12:32 But
I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself."
Isaiah 11:10
In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples;
the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious.
BANNERS
RELEASE HEALING, SALVATION AND LIFE:
Numbers 21:8-9
The LORD said to Moses, "Make a snake and put it up on a pole
(Hebrew "nace" which means a flag, a flagstaff); anyone
who is bitten can look at it and live." So Moses made a bronze
snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a
snake and looked at the bronze snake, he lived.
John 3:14-15
Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man
must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal
life.
WHEN
BANNERS ARE RAISED THE ENEMY IS DEFEATED:
Isaiah 59:19
So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and His glory
from the rising of the sun; when the enemy comes in like a flood,
the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard (Hebrew "nuwc"
which means to flit, vanish away) against him. (NKJ)
Exodus 17:15 As
long as Moses held up the rod of God in his hands the Isrealites were
winning in the battle against the Amalekites. And Moses call the place
THE-LORD-IS-MY-BANNER.
BANNERS ARE A SIGN OF VICTORY:
Psalm 20:5 We
will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our
banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests.
IN
ISAIAH WE ARE COMMANDED TO RAISE A BANNER:
Isaiah 62:10
Pass through, pass through the gates! Prepare the way for the people.
Build up, build up the highway! Remove the stones. Raise a banner
for the nations.
IN
THE SONG OF SOLOMON THE SHULAMITE, WHO REPRESENTS THE CHURCH, IS
DESCRIBED AS BEING AWESOME AS AN ARMY WITH BANNERS:
Song of Solomon
6:10 Who is she who looks forth as the morning, fair as the moon,
clear as the sun, awesome as an army with banners? THE SHULAMITE
(NKJ)
Song of Solomon
6:4 You are beautiful, my darling, as Tirzah, lovely as Jerusalem,
majestic as troops with banners.
HIS
BANNER OVER US IS LOVE:
Song of Solomon
2:4 He has taken me to the banquet hall, and his banner over me
is love.
THE
LORD HIMSELF IS OUR BANNER:
Exodus 17:15
And Moses built an altar and called its name,
THE-LORD-IS-MY-BANNER. (NKJ)
Isaiah 11:10
In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples.
John 12:32 But
I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.
